School Site Council Meeting

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

 

WELCOME/CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by Andrea Parker, President at 2:49 p.m.

 

FLAG SALUTE

Anthony Garcia, Vice President, led the Flag Salute.

 

ROLL CALL

Sandra Ortiz, Parliamentarian, conducted roll call.

 

QUORUM

There were 7 voting members present: Leah Bass-Baylis, Andrea Parker, Anthony Garcia, Sandra Ortiz, Brenda Alaniz, Mildania De Leon, Jacqueline Sanchez.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

-Brenda Alaniz suggested that parents be allowed to attend Monday morning assemblies.

-Tania Martinez thanked Leah Bass-Baylis for the purchase of more Spanish books for the library and supported   the suggestion that parents attend Monday morning assembly.

-Mildania De Leon brought forward a concern about complete breakfasts for Breakfast in the Classroom.

 

REVIEW OF MINUTES

Andrea Parker, President distributed the minutes of the SSC meeting of 2/20/19 and asked for a motion to accept the minutes as read. Brenda Alaniz made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Jacqueline Sanchez seconded the motion.  In favor 7, opposed 0, abstained 0 .The motion passed.

 

 

BUDGET DISCUSSION AND PRIORITIES

Sandra Ortiz, Parliamentarian, made a motion to allocate $25,083.92 for instructional services with Mr. Kukla, Dr. Deara Espinoza, 40 chromebooks, chromebook cart, and Writer’s Workshop instructional supplies. Anthony Garcia, Vice President, seconded the motion. In favor 7, opposed 0, abstained 0.

Notes:

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

-Anthony Garcia, Vice President, announced on behalf of Abraham Reyes the need for vacuums and an extractor.

-Agenda items to add for the next meeting: recycling program discussion, breakdown of fundraising money and allocation of funds.

 

 

MOTION TO ADJOURN

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Brenda Alaniz. Anthony Garcia, Vice President, seconded. In favor 7, opposed 0, abstained 0.

Andrea Parker, President, adjourned the meeting at 3:17 pm.

WELCOME/CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by Andrea Parker, President, at 2:53 p.m.

 

FLAG SALUTE

Anthony Garcia, Vice President, led the Flag Salute.

 

ROLL CALL

 Andrea Parker conducted roll call.

 

QUORUM

There were 7 voting members present: Leah Bass-Baylis, Andrea Parker, Anthony Garcia, Sandra Ortiz, Abraham Reyes, Brenda Alaniz, Mildania De Leon

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

Tania Martinez spoke about the need for more Spanish books.

Esther Calderon spoke about options for the school review.

 

REVIEW OF MINUTES

Andrea Parker, President, distributed the minutes of the SSC meeting of February 6, 2019 and asked for a motion to accept the minutes as corrected. Leah Bass-Baylis made a correction to the minutes- legal actions are being taken against parents of students who are chronically truant in grades 1-5. Sandra Ortiz, Parliamentarian, made a motion to accept the minutes with corrections. Brenda Alaniz seconded the motion.  In favor 7 opposed 0, abstained 0 .The motion passed.

 

ELECTION OF SECRETARY

Andrea Parker, President, opened the floor for nominations for the office of Secretary. Sandra Ortiz, Parliamentarian, nominated Abraham Reyes. No other nominations were made. Sandra Ortiz motioned to close the floor for nominations. Brenda Alaniz seconded the motion. Abraham Reyes was elected Secretary, 7 voting members were in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained.

 

RESPOND TO ELAC

January 8- Leah Bass-Baylis moved to accept the recommendations by ELAC. Anthony Garcia, Vice President, seconded the motion.

            Barbara Garcia is running intervention for grades 3-5 for students who are close to reclassification every day for 30 minutes. They are doing ELPAC practice tests and Barbara Garcia will run copies of practice ELPAC tests for teachers who need it. Dr. D is addressing computer skills, during computer lab times on how to respond to SBAC questions. She is also helping the students understand how to maneuver the computer screens.

In favor 7, opposed 0, abstained 0. The motion passed.

 

 

 

 

February 14- Leah Bass-Baylis moved to accept the recommendations from ELAC. Sandra Ortiz, Parliamentarian, seconded.

            Barbara Garcia said intervention is provided for targeted students in grades 3-5 in the learning center. Lexia intervention is K-5. Teachers have indicated in data chats that they are providing in class interventions. 3rd and 4th grade are running ELLP academies for ELA intervention. Teachers participate in designated ELD time to meet needs of ELs.

In favor, opposed 0, abstained 0. The motion passed.

 

 

LANGUAGE CENSUS

Leah Bass-Baylis passed out the language census, discussed the purpose of the census and the data shown.

 

BUDGET DISCUSSION AND PRIORITIES

Leah Bass-Baylis passed out handouts showing our CA School Dashboard Data in order to better focus our objectives for the SPSA 2019-2020 school year. We are working on tentative budget figures, but need to figure out budget estimates and priorities. Leah-Bass-Baylis passed out a 2018-2019 Budget overview to review. Will look at usage for licensed computer programs (which ones do we want to keep using or let go).

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Leah Bass-Baylis asked that budget priority sheets be turned in by Thursday, February 21.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Leah Bass-Baylis. Sandra Ortiz, Parliamentarian, seconded. 7 in favor, 0 opposed, 0 abstained.
